Post-Jam Update
After the jam I made some changes to the game. The first was to programmatically generate the table from a JSON file. This gives more control over the information available in the game in a much easier to manage format and may even allow for extra puzzles that include the lanthanides and actinides. It took a LOT longer to setup than the brute force hard-coded version I made for the jam so I'm glad I did it the way I did it originally. As it was it took a lot longer to make the table scene than I had hoped/anticipated.
I've made a couple of quality of life improvements. Elements will snap to the nearest slot in the table if they overlap which just looks and feels nicer.
The game will only end when you release the last tile.
I added a UI to help track down missing/incorrectly placed elements.
Each element now has the full name, abbreviation and atomic weight so it should be easier to notice mistakes.
One thing I haven't done is changed the font. If people still feel this is needed then I can do but I'm hoping the extra information makes it a little easier to spot issues with your periodic table layout.
Here's hoping you have fun with the new version!
Oh and a word of warning, if you memorised the original non-randomised starting layout, I have some bad news for you, making the table programmatically has changed the layout of the starting puzzle!
